Our 9.5" petroglyph stoneware, handmade in Hawaii using the ancient 16th Century Japanese firing technique called raku. During the last firing of the clay, each piece is buried with combustible materials. The metallic oxides in the glaze produce a unique finish for each piece. No two are ever exactly the same. Our local artist is inspired by Hawaii's ancient petroglyphs, an early art expression carved in living stone. This wonderful piece is coupled with a masterfully handcrafted solid koa wood base. Comes with a solid koa wood base 9" length x 4.5" wide x 7/8" high with beveled front for engraving (optional, additional cost - please call for pricing). Engraving area is approximately 9" left to right and 1" from top to bottom.
