“Lava Crack” is this artist’s interpretation of hot molten lava breaking surface. With the recent earthquakes early Sunday morning, Father’s Day, June 17, 2007, this exciting event marked as Episode 56 on the on-going Pu’u ‘O’o eruption of Kilauea, caused a small outbreak of lava to ooze from a new fissure located on the upper East Rift Zone of Kilauea. Made entirely out of glass, this piece commands your attention as it represents the results of 70 million years of volcanism and evolution, processes that have thrust bare land from the sea and dressed it with unique ecosystems. |
