The Kohala cliffs stand proud near the birthplace Kamehameha I, the unifier and first king of Hawai‘i. Like the Na Pali Coast on Kaua‘i or the Ko’olau Range on O‘ahu, the Kohala cliffs are imposingly beautiful. This handmade ceramic plate upon which the Kohala cliffs are depicted does them justice because it captures their essence, their scale. Far above the blue waters and the brown beaches rise the green waterfall-laden towers to gray and white skies. It, like what it depicts, is a sight to behold.
