The Diamond Head Crater, located on the coast east of Waikiki, is a famous scenic vista as pictured on this vintage magnet. The crater, which can be seen from many points on the island of O’ahu, is the remnant of a tuff cone volcano that formed through a series of volcanic eruptions known to geologists as the Honolulu Volcanic Series. Hawaiians know the crater as Le’ahi, but its English name was given by British sailors who mistook calcite crystals embedded in the rock for diamonds.
