Petroglyph stoneware, handmade in Hawaii using the ancient 16th Century Japanese firing technique called raku. During the last firing of the clay, each piece is buried with combustible materials; the metallic oxides in the glaze producing a unique finish for each piece. No two are ever exactly the same. Our local artist is inspired by Hawaii's ancient art petroglyphs, an early art expression carved in living stone. This wonderful piece is coupled with a masterfully handcrafted solid koa wood base. Base size is 6" x 3" x 7/8" high with beveled front for an engraving area of approximately 1" high by 6" wide.
Plate size is approximately 7" diameter x 2.5" high
