This award will make an impression, a symbol of strength and power of Hawaii’s greatest natural wonder: the Volcano. This handmade piece is an interpretation of the two types of lava - the products of Hawaii's spectacular erupting volcanoes. The wide, jagged lip depicts the poky roughness of the a'a lava. The bottom of the bowl shows the smooth likeness of pahoehoe lava. Using the age-old technique of the raku process, each piece is individually made by hand, creating unique color patterns that are one-of-a-kind.Bowl stands roughly 2-1/2" high and 5-1/2" diameter, and held in place with a 1/8" rope atop a 4” x 4” x 1” koa wood base.
