Hawaiian sea salt is traditionally used by the Hawaiians in ceremonies to purify and cleanse the soul, and bless tools and canoes. It was also used in healing rituals for medicinal purposes. This box contains ‘Alaea salt – its reddish tint derived from Hawaiian clay, enriching the salt with Iron-Oxide – was used customarily as a seasoning and food preservative. It is the traditional and authentic seasoning for native Hawaiian dishes like poke, kalua pig, and lau lau. It is also known that to give pa’akai (salt) as a gift is a symbol of friendship.
