** LIMITED STOCK! ** This koa wood replica of a genuine classic poi pounder, called ku’i ‘ai pohaku in Hawaiian, is a big part of the Hawaiian’s diet, used to mash taro, a potato-like root, to get poi, a paste-like food that was the main staple of their diet. Each Hawaiian household owned at least a pounder or two or three - a testament of the importance of the taro and pounders in their culture. The pounders were also used to prepare medicines and food, like fruits, bananas, breadfruit and sweet potatoes. Pounders were made more commonly made out of basalt or coral, but wood was sometimes also used. Enjoy this beautiful wood piece of a classic poi pounder with base.
